Metaphorical cards “Portraits and Faces” are suitable for working with a wide range of requests. This set will also be effective in working with family systems and generic scenarios. Thanks to bright and colorful images, any client request can be processed. The paintings depict portraits of men and women of all ages: from babies to the elderly; different nationalities and ethnic groups – this property makes the MAK set universal, because everyone can find familiar, related people there.
You can work with the deck both in individual and group counseling. It can also be used in systemic constellations and as a deck for self-discovery. MAC “Portraits and Faces” can be used both separately and in combination with other decks.

MAK “Portraits and Faces” can be used in:

Working with family systems and generic scenarios through the analysis of faces allows you to better understand and realize certain patterns of behavior characteristic of certain family members. It also allows you to explore the psychological causes of family conflicts, repeating stereotypical patterns of behavior among different members of the family and clan system.
The following strategies for working with metaphorical associative cards can be distinguished:

Open selection of cards ( VO) – the client chooses the image himself. This option is considered safer and less disturbing in comparison with the second option.
Closed card selection(VZ) – the client chooses a card at random, without seeing the image, face down. This option can trigger deeper work, and it also introduces an element of play into the consultation process.

Ways to work with the MAK “Portraits and Faces.”
We offer you examples of exercises for working with this deck, you can modify them to suit the goals and objectives of a specific advisory situation or come up with your own ways of working.
Technique No. 1. “All my facets.”
Goal: self-knowledge, self-acceptance, work with self-esteem.

Remember the three positive and three negative personal qualities that are inherent to you (the assessment of “positive” and “negative” is conditional, focus on the subjective feeling about these qualities). Write them down on a piece of paper.

Choose three cards for positive qualities. Imagine that these images show you using this personal characteristic. For example, if one of the written qualities is “kind”, choose the portrait that seems to you most suitable for this characteristic – this is how you see yourself as kind.

Why did you choose this card? Describe the person depicted on the card: what is he like? In what situation can he behave this way? Give an example of a situation where you felt like the person in the picture.

Choose three cards for negative qualities. Ask the same questions as in point #3.

Lay out all six images in front of you. Do you feel whole? How do you feel looking at these cards? Discuss.

Choose an EO card from the resource deck (for example, “Inner Support”) with the question: “What will help me accept all my facets as a whole?”

Technique No. 2. “Social network.”
Purpose: research of significant relationships, working out conflict situations.

Choose one card with the question: “Who do I feel like?” Also, select four to six cards of people with whom you are most in contact at the moment. These could be parents, a partner, colleagues, friends or a boss.

Distribute the cards in space in a way that would be comfortable for you. Describe the relationship between the card-you and the cards of other people. At what distance are they from each other and why?

VZ, draw one card from the universal story deck (for example, “Projection”) for each pair (for example, Me and Mom) with the question: “How can characterize our relationship?”

If there is any conflict, tension or crisis in the relationship that you would like to explore and transform, draw one OT card from the resource deck (for example, “Inner Support”). What will help me improve this relationship?

Technique No. 3. “Heritage.”
Purpose: study of the family system, search for generic resources.

Choose one card that shows you in your family system. Also, VO select one card each for the role of immediate relatives (this can be parents, siblings, grandparents). Arrange them in space so that it is comfortable.

From the plot set of cards (for example, “Projection”), take one OT card that would reflect the following aspects:
-The strength of my family
-The weakness of my family

In what situations did this strength and this weakness manifest itself? Who was the actor in these situations? Who did you first hear about this from? (You may have been told this verbally or shown through a pattern of behavior)

From a resource set of cards (for example, “Inner Support”), draw one resource card from each family member who is present in your workspace. What can these family members convey to you? What resource messages are they broadcasting to you?
