Family Casket Technique
Purpose: to provide support in the experience of grief of loss.
1. Blindly select 3 cards.
2. Turn them over so that their plot sides are facing up. The first will symbolize life in the past. The second is in the present. The third is in the future.
3. Based on the cards, make up stories about each stage.
4. Select a card openly that will reflect the changes that have occurred in your life. What is shown in the picture? What changes do these events bring to your way of life?
5. Describe the emotions that permeate the image. Which states are obvious to everyone, and which are hidden by cartoon characters? Are the experiences that the characters experience close to you?
6. Select 5 cards at random.
7. Place one in the center directly in front of you, the rest around at different distances. The central card will represent you. Surrounding drawn scenes – your relatives, friends, colleagues and other people (neighbors, acquaintances).
8. After the cards have been designated, turn them over. Taking into account the distance of the cards in relation to yours, determine how connections with people around you will now change. Who can become closer to you, who risks moving away. How can key roles and responsibilities be redistributed?
9. What changes would be desirable? Move the cards accordingly.
10. Open up, choose a card that will symbolize you today, at this stage of life. Place it on a blank sheet of paper.
11. On the left and right, draw the things that have been passed down in your family from generation to generation. This could be orders, watches, jewelry, etc. Under each picture, write who they belonged to.
12. Determine what power of the first owners these relics carry? Label the listed qualities.
13. Connect the pictures and your map with green lines. The result was a kind of network. This is the support that your ancestors invisibly provide to you. They give you their best qualities for perseverance in the current situation.
14. On top, draw the thing that you associate with the departed person. What strength and best qualities does it carry within itself? Label them.
15. Connect this thing and your card with a red line. This will be a symbol of accepting the “treasures” of a dear person. It will give you a feeling of connection on a subtle level, gives you the strength to move on, the opportunity to enter into new emotionally rich relationships.
